I was asked to carry out a light recommissioning of this lovely alloy-bodied C-Type by Proteus. The car presented well but had recently changed hands at auction as a non-runner.
A full nut and bolt check was required, as well as a complete inspection of its electrical system, before it could be enjoyed throughout the summer, both on road and track, by its new and current owner.
As part of the recommissioning the car was treated to a full fluids change, carburettor tuning (which revealed a sticking float on the aft carb), a new water pump, a set of 5x new period-correct tyres, a quick release steering wheel, and a hidden 12v power source.
We were also asked to carry out modifications to the in order to accommodate the tall driver.
Having put 4,500 miles on the car over summer, including a trouble-free tour of the Loire which included some on-track use at the Le Mans Classic, the owner asked whether I could help improve the car’s cooling in heavy traffic.
These cars always tend to run hot, but subtle improvements can be made. I sourced an upgraded aluminium radiator, installing it with a large pull-through fan and adjustable thermostat – handy for those moments when traffic cannot be avoided.
